    Polyetherimide PEI

    I. Introduction to performance:     

        Polyetherimide PEI has outstanding resistance to heat (long-term heat resistance at 180℃), and showed good toughness and rigidity, high hardness, good wear resistance and outstanding performance. So, it is very suitable for use in electric and electronic insulation parts (i.e., the various structural components requiring high strength and stiffness at high temperatures). PEI has been widely used in the field of medical instruments and analytical instruments because of its good hydrolysis resistance. It also has excellent mechanical properties, electrical insulation, radiation resistance, high temperature resistance and wear resistance, and can pass through microwave. At the same time, PEI, as an amorphous material, has good heat insulation due to its ultra-high melting point, and therefore PEI profile can be used as a heat insulation board at the high temperature of 300℃. 

    II. Application fields: 

    1. PEI has excellent comprehensive balance performance, and has been effectively applied in industrial sectors such as electronics, electrical machinery and aviation, and can be used as metal substitute material for traditional products and cultural articles for daily use.  

    2. In the electrical and electronic industry sector, the parts made of PEI materials have been widely used, including the connector with high strength and dimensional stability, ordinary and micro relay shell, circuit boards, coils, flexible circuits, mirrors, high-precision dense optical fiber components. In particular, the use of PEI material instead of metal in the manufacture of fiber optic connectors can optimize the component structure, simplify its manufacturing and assembly steps, and maintain more precise dimensions, thus guaranteeing a reduction of approximately 40% in the cost of the final product. 

    3. Impact resistant plate ULTEM1613 is used for all kinds of aircraft parts, such as portholes, nose parts, seat backrests, interior panels, door coverings and all kinds of objects for passenger use. In addition, the composites composed of PEI and carbon fiber have been used in various structures of the latest helicopter.  

    4. Due to the good mechanical properties, thermal properties and chemical resistant properties, PEI is used in automobile industry, such as manufacturing of high temperature fittings, high power lamp and light, sensor (air conditioning temperature sensor) of controlling the car cabin outside temperature and the sensor (effective combustion temperature sensor) of controlling air and fuel mixture temperature. In addition, PEI can also be used as a vacuum pump impeller resistant to high temperature oil erosion, grinding glass joints (connector) of distillating devices operating at 180℃, and a reflector for non-lighting anti-fog lamps.

    5. PEI foam plastic is used for transport machinery, aircraft and other thermal insulation and sound insulation materials.

    6. PEI has excellent hydrolysis resistance, so it is used as handles, pallets, jigs, artificial limbs, medical lamp reflectors and dental appliances for medical surgical instruments. 

    7. In the food industry, it is used as a product packaging and microwave tray. 

    8. PEI has excellent high temperature mechanical properties and wear resistance, so it can be used to manufacture the valve parts of the water pipeline steering valve. Due to its high strength, flexibility and heat resistance, PEI is an excellent coating and film forming material. It can be used to form coatings and films suitable for the electronics industry, and can be used to manufacture microporous diaphragms with a pore size < 0.1μm and high permeability. Moreover, it can also be used as high temperature resistant adhesive and high strength fiber, etc.
